Cooler temperatures in September reduced demand for power in India. Power generation retraced in September to 148 TWH, down 11 from 159 TWH in August which was an all-time high. DBX expects power generation in October to remain at similar levels as September. Coal power generation remained unchanged due to lower hydro power generation.
September's Indian coal prices, according to customs, were at similar levels as in August. DBX expects October prices to increase. This is especially true for Indonesian coal prices, as the country is now requiring miners to submit production plans for the next three years, causing uncertainty regarding licenses and availability in the export market.
