With the economy sustaining its momentum and temperatures on the rise, the demand for electricity is expected to climb further in the upcoming months, particularly driven by increased need for air conditioning. Notably, Indian coal power generation soared to an unprecedented monthly peak of 112.5 TWh in March, representing an impressive 8.5% increase month-over-month and a robust 9% jump year-over-year.
With hydro generation remaining near all-time low levels and renewables still comprising a low percentage of the energy mix, coal has surged forward to meet the increased demand for power. Indian coal power generation reached an all-time monthly high in March at 112.5 TWh, marking a 8.5% mom increase and a 9% yoy increase.
