Cerrejon, owned by Glencore, stands as the second-largest coal mine in Colombia. A 4-hour train journey links the mine to the port of Puerto Bolivar through a 150-kilometer railway, serving as a vital supplier to countries in Europe and the Mediterranean region and exporting nearly 20 million tons in 2024.

It has been six days since an explosive attack inflicted serious damage on the Cerrejón Colombia railway line on December 15th. Since the assault, coal railing has come to a halt. One 173kt capesize vessel has successfully loaded. However, a loading queue consisting of 3 Capesize and 2 Panamax vessels, totaling 680 kilotonnes, remains impacted. Puerto Bolivar, with a storage capacity of 610kt, has not seen any completed ship loading activities since the 19th of December, which suggests there is no more coal left at the port
